Sarah Kreps is the John L. Wetherill Professor in the Department of Government, Adjunct Professor of Law, and the Director of the Tech Policy Institute in the Cornell Brooks School of Public Policy. Her work examines the intersection of technology and national security, including artificial intelligence, drones and autonomous systems, semiconductors, cryptocurrency and digital assets, and the industrial base and supply chains that underpin modern geopolitical competition.

Dr. Kreps is the author of nine books, including Drones: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press) and a forthcoming book on technology policy from nuclear weapons to artificial intelligence, Harnessing Disruption: Building the Tech Future without Breaking Society (Oxford University Press). She has also written dozens of academic articles, policy briefs, and op-eds on the political, economic, and security implications of emerging technologies.

She frequently advises the White House, members of Congress, and industry on governance challenges at the intersection of emerging technologies and national security. Her work bridges the policy and national security communities with the engineering and innovation communities developing these technologies, helping companies navigate national security partnerships while maintaining responsible technology practices and giving governments confidence that critical technologies will be available for lawful missions.

Her research and insights are frequently featured in international media outlets such as the New York Times, BBC, Financial Times, CNBC, Bloomberg, and CNN; policy outlets such as Foreign Affairs; and academic journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Kreps is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, a Senior Fellow at the Bitcoin Policy Institute, and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She received her BA from Harvard University, MSc from Oxford, and PhD from Georgetown, and previously served as an active-duty officer in the United States Air Force.
